Mounting Information

This page is for those who would like information on mounting before you buy. Full mounting instructions come with each house. This section is an idea section and by no means is every possible way. There are many different ways to mount a birdhouse, some of which, I'm sure we've never heard of. At the bottom are recommended mounting heights.
Metal poles, galvanized steel or aluminium, are by far the best I've ever used. They are inexpensive, light, predators have a hard time climbing them, and are readily available. Houses are easy to mount with hose clamps. You could also drill holes and use screws.
P.V.C pipes work but can be flimsy as heights increase. They are inexpensive, light, predators have a hard time climbing them, and readly available. Houses are easy to mount with hose clamps. You could also drill holes and use screws.

Wooden posts, pressure treated or cedar, are a classic look in any garden. Houses may be mounted on the top of the post or on the face. Houses are easy to mount with screws. Open fence rows are an excellent place for bluebirds.

Trees can be useful if used in an appropriate manner. Loose chain is very useful in mounting large sized boxes to trees, owl boxes especially because of their size and mounting height. Smaller boxes may be attached with bungee cord, wire, rope, or jack chain. Try not to use nails or screws, trees have a tendency to push them out, and you could damage the tree.

Buildings can be a good place for social birds. A wren house under the eaves is sure to attract a family year after year. Buildings can be attractive to bats, mounting a bat house to a building, high in a peak is an excellent choice.

Do not mount to utility poles unless you are the owner of the pole. Utility companies do not want anything mounted to utility poles, it endangers you and the utility workers.
